We provided A/V system design services to Number Ten Architects for the Manitoba Hydro Meeting/Video Conference Room. Completed in 1998, the room is part of the new post-disaster torando-survivable Control Centre and is intended for technical communication with MB Hydro locations throughout the province of Manitoba and other Canadian and US based power utilities that operate on the power grid.
The room has two functions; the first, a meeting room capable of supporting technical presentations including real-time screens of Hydro's control system workstation software, CAD drawings, computer presentations and video images from a document camera, off-air or cable broadcasts, or satellite on a high resolution rear projection video system. There is also a drop down front projection screen to support other optical presentation formats.
The second function is a video conference room that provides high bandwidth 384kb/s conference connections to other Hydro facilities, but is also downward compatible to other video conference formats including desktop computer conferencing. A full range of video sources are supported including two robotic cameras. Video logging of conferences is available to facilitate the generation of meeting minutes.
All systems are integrated through a touch panel control system that offers video preview capability for camera aiming or cueing of video sources.
